VNC on Wayland: options by compositor
VNC options for each Wayland compositor and how to check an existing setup.
VNC (Virtual Network Computing) explained: the RFB protocol, the client-server architecture, and how remote framebuffer sharing works.

VNC sends one desktop, so two monitors arrive as one wide screen. Clip it on the server, scale it, or let the viewer split it across your own monitors.
A VNC black screen usually means nothing is drawing: the wrong TigerVNC session, the same user logged in locally, or x11vnc on the wrong display.
VNC connection refused? Check what's listening on 5900 plus the display: nothing, another port or 127.0.0.1 each point to a different fix.
Plain VNC isn't secure on an open network. Check your server with ss and nmap, then keep it on localhost behind SSH or offer X.509 types only.
Change a VNC password on TigerVNC, RealVNC, TightVNC, a Mac or Virtualizor, check that the old one bounces, and keep the listener off the network.
Keep TigerVNC’s Xvnc on loopback, forward port 5901 with ssh -L, and check both ends with ss and sshd -T so the desktop is reachable only through SSH.
A grey VNC screen means the viewer connected but the session drew no desktop. Read the log, prove the display with an xterm, then start a real desktop.
VNC on a slow link works when you shrink each update: Tight with lower JPEG quality, a smaller desktop and a frame-rate cap. For Windows-only work, try RDP first.
Pick a VNC client for the job: TigerVNC for most admins, Remmina on mixed Linux desktops, UltraVNC or TightVNC for Windows support, noVNC for browsers.
