Acceptable Use Policy

This policy defines uses that are prohibited so VNC.com remains a lawful, safe, and useful technical community.

Scope and lawful use

This policy applies to every use of VNC.com, including accounts, profiles, posts, replies, messages to moderators, uploads, and automated requests. Use the site only for lawful purposes and in line with the Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.

Do not use VNC.com to plan, encourage, request, or carry out conduct that violates a law, another person’s rights, or a duty you owe to an organization. A technical or educational label does not excuse harmful conduct.

Authorized access only

VNC is for machines you own or are authorized to reach. Asking how to access a machine you do not own or administer is banned. Do not seek help bypassing authentication, monitoring another person’s session without permission, defeating an organization’s controls, or maintaining access after authorization ends.

Defensive discussion is welcome when it is framed for systems the member is permitted to test and gives readers enough context to understand that authorization. Moderators may remove operational details when the likely harm outweighs the educational value.

Malware, credentials, and exploits

Do not distribute malware, ransomware, spyware, destructive scripts, or payloads designed to hide unauthorized access. Do not post credential dumps, passwords, private keys, authentication tokens, license keys, or links whose main purpose is to distribute them. Do not buy, sell, or trade exploits through the community.

When discussing a vulnerability, protect affected users. Avoid live credentials and unnecessary exploit code, follow responsible disclosure practices, and use the vendor’s security contact for an unresolved security-critical issue.

Harassment, hate, and privacy

Do not threaten, harass, stalk, shame, or target another person. Hate speech and content that attacks or dehumanizes people based on protected characteristics are prohibited. Do not encourage others to pile onto a member or carry a dispute across threads.

Do not publish another person’s private information, track them without consent, or scrape member profiles, posts, or contact details to build a dataset. Public visibility does not grant permission for bulk collection, enrichment, sale, or unsolicited outreach.

Impersonation and deception

Do not impersonate a person, company, project, moderator, or staff member. Do not use misleading account details, forged evidence, or coordinated accounts to manipulate a discussion. Parody must be clearly identified and must not create a reasonable risk of confusion or harm.

Disclose a relevant employment, financial, or project connection when recommending your own product or work. Undisclosed promotion and fabricated endorsements are prohibited.

API and automation limits

Automated access and posting are subject to reasonable-use limits. Do not overwhelm the service, evade rate controls, create accounts in bulk, post repetitive content, or use automation to simulate community support. Use a documented API where one is provided and respect its authentication, rate, and purpose limits.

We may restrict automated traffic that harms availability, member privacy, moderation, or ordinary use. Permission for one integration does not authorize a different use or access to data beyond that integration’s stated scope.

Reports and consequences

Report a suspected violation by email to abuse@vnc.com, including a link to the relevant post. Depending on severity and history, action may include content editing or removal, a warning, a temporary suspension, or a ban. Immediate action may be taken to limit active harm. Reviews and appeals follow the Moderation and Reporting Policy.
