UltraVNC

Windows-native VNC.

UltraVNC is an open-source VNC server and viewer for Windows, licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later. It includes file transfer and text chat. The latest release listed in this page’s spec card is 1.8.3.0, released in September 2026.

  • Good for: personal Windows projects and home labs that need file transfer or chat, with an operator handling authentication, exposure and updates.
  • Consider RealVNC Connect when: your business depends on remote access and you need end-to-end encryption, centralised management and commercial support.

  • Windows only. Both the server and viewer are for Windows; there are no macOS or Linux builds. UltraVNC downloads.
  • UltraVNC encryption is optional through a configured DSM plugin. The server default is no DSM plugin. UltraVNC SettingsManager.cpp.

Get UltraVNC

The server runs on the computer whose screen you want to view. The viewer runs on the computer displaying that screen. UltraVNC provides both for Windows. UltraVNC downloads.
